The Tour de Ford

Sunday 16th October 2016 saw Bridgend Ford host the 'Tour de Ford' ride-out which consisted of a 90km ride-out through the Vale. The day began at 9:00am for registration, we had over sixty riders turn up on what began as a wet and miserable Autumn morning. By half past nine the sun began breaking through and started off what would be a bright and sunny day... perfect riding conditions some called it. With registration over, it was time for the briefing which was taken by Paul Davies. Paul addressed the packed showroom with a background on the event, along with relevant safety precautions that needed to be followed throughout the day.

With the briefing over, it was time for the riders to set off on their ride-out. The first wave, led by Leon Pesticcio made their way down the boulevard and began their ride followed by the Team Sky Ford Transit Custom support vehicle. Our filming crew didn't miss any of the action throughout the day with Go Pros attached to the support vehicles as well as drone capturing the sights from the sky. We were lucky enough to have several Cycling Clubs in attendance, along with local bike repair shop Onit Cycles who provided technical support, K2 Gym brought Watt Bikes for the rider to warm up on and the South Wales Fire & Rescue Extraction Team who Bridgend Ford sponsor during their events.

With the first wave twenty minutes in to their ride, it was time to send out the second wave of riders. Closely followed by two support vehicles, a Ford Mondeo Estate driven by Jamie Griffiiths and a Ford Edge driven by Stefan Mazur. It is worth giving a special thanks to these two members of staff for kindly giving up their Sunday to support our event. With both waves out on the roads it was our Marketing Team's job to drive to different points throughout the route and ensure that plenty of footage was captured. With some strong wind conditions to contend with, our drone was very difficult to keep under control but thanks to our dedicated pilot, we kept it safe but still managing to capture some great moments.

At around 12:30 we began to see riders return back to the dealership. It was difficult to find anyone without a smile stretched from ear to ear as everyone involved seemed to enjoy the experience. Refreshments were available to the riders on their return including Innocent Smoothies along with Gluco tablets which were kindly provided by local isotonic drinks company, Gluco. As the day came to a close, riders started to leave and our team began to pack down the equipment and point of sale. The day was deemed a huge success by everyone involved, from support drivers to the riders. We are now looking to organise another Tour de Ford for 2017.

Once again, a special thanks to the members of staff involved throughout the day: Gary Pesticcio, Paul Davies, Leon Pesticcio, Oliver Lewis, Jamie Griffiths and Stefan Mazur.

Another thank you to: Onit Cycles, K2 Gym, Gluco and The South Wales Fire & Rescure Extraction Team (Dragons)
