The compact Ford B-MAX may be small on the outside, but it’s big on practical features. A wide choice of frugal engines makes it affordable to run, while Ford’s legendary reputation for producing fine-handling cars remains thanks to the taut chassis.
All B-MAXs come with stylish alloy wheels so you can cut a dash as you nip through the tiniest gaps in traffic through the city.
A heated windscreen will keep the view ahead clear. Sliding rear doors help you to access the spacious cabin in even the narrowest of parking spaces, as well as making it easy to fit a child seat.
The top-of-the-range Titanium X trim includes a panoramic glass sunroof to flood the cabin with light and accentuate the feeling of space.
Settle behind the steering wheel and you’ll notice that the upright driving position helps provide a commanding view over the road.
Standard air conditioning ensures the cabin stays cool, while Bluetooth technology and Ford’s SYNC system means you can take phone calls at the wheel safely. A CD player, DAB digital radio, an AUX input connection and USB connectivity are also standard, so you can set the right soundtrack for every occasion too.
The practical boot has a capacity of 318 litres, and even features a false floor under which to hide valuables. If you need to expand that, the rear seats fold flat to create a 1,386-litre space. The passenger seat can also be folded so long loads like ladders and flat-pack furniture are easily taken care of too.
Your B-MAX can be powered by any of seven engines. The entry-level 1.4-litre petrol has 88bhp, while a 103bhp 1.6-litre that comes with the Powershift semi-automatic gearbox is also available.
Two versions of the turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine are available across the range: one with 99bhp, one with 123bhp. A third version, with 138bhp, is offered in the special Colour Editions. Every EcoBoost model emits less than 120g/km of CO2, making them affordable to run.
Cost-conscious buyers may be tempted by the frugal diesel options. Choose from two versions of the 1.5-litre TDCi engine, with 74bhp or 93bhp. Both emit just 98g/km of CO2 and return over 74mpg, guaranteeing low running costs.
The B-MAX has a full five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, and every model comes fitted with electronic stability control, traction control and seven airbags.
The innovative MyKey system is also included, allowing you to activate a speed limiter and limit the volume of the radio when the spare key is being used. This clever technology offers peace of mind if a younger member of the family periodically borrows your car.
There is also a tyre pressure monitoring system, and cruise control comes as standard on Titanium and Titanium X models to make long motorway journeys less tiring.
