Motability criteria

If you receive one of the following mobility allowances, and it’s valid for at least 12 months, you can apply to join the Motability Scheme:

Higher rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Motability for a wide range of ages

Children who receive the higher rate mobility part of DLA can apply for Motability. This will need to be done in the name of a parent or guardian who will be responsible for the allowance. It can remain in place up until the age of 16 (provided the child in question is still eligible).
An eligible child’s allowance begins the day they turn three (although the lease won’t start until they’ve received their allowance).
If you are aged 65 or older, you can still apply for Motability.

Motability insurance

You can insure up to three drivers on your vehicle and the names can change at any time. You don’t necessarily need to be one of the named drivers. This means that anyone insured by Motability to drive your car can do so on your behalf, as long as it directly benefits you.

Benefits of Motability

With Motability, we can arrange for adaptations that will make it easier for you to access and/or drive your vehicle, if required. Many such modifications are offered free of charge.

As well as insurance, your Motability lease package includes the following:

Servicing and MOT – regular services, routine repairs and annual MOT tests are all covered
RAC Breakdown Cover – any UK or European trip in your Motability car is covered by the RAC in the event of breakdown
Vehicle tax – we’ll arrange for the taxation of your Motability vehicle for the first year – and we’ll renew it at the start of each year of the remainder of your lease
