THE DECA IRON MAN

For his latest challenge FF Rich Fuller is going to attempt an infamous Deca Ironman Triathlon, which is basically 10 ironmen triathlons in 10 days. The event will be held in and around the Millennium Coastal Park in Llanelli, with the swim being undertaken at North Dock every morning. The bike and run sections will lead the challenge towards the idyllic location of Pembrey Country Park, where the permanent Base and HQ will be located. Rich will be supported by a number of fellow firefighters during the race and some will be completing certain legs with him, but only Rich has his sights set on the full Deca!

Daily distances covered:

SWIM - 2.4 miles
CYCLE - 112 miles
RUN - 26.2 miles

Total distances covered over 10 days:

SWIM - 24 miles

The event will be running from Sunday 16th July through to Wednesday 26th July 2017 and has been created for the sole purpose of raising much needed funds for the chosen charities below:

  • GOLAU CANCER CARE, SWANSEA
  • VELINDRE CANCER CARE, CARDIFF
  • FIREFIGHTERS CHARITY

As well as Rich attempting the Decaman, his close FF Colleagues will be attempting to cover some pretty big mileage themselves whilst supporting him on the challenge:

  • FF Matt Price 1 x 2.4 Mile swim every day for 10 days (24 miles Total)
  • FF Mark Butler 1 x 112 Mile Cycle every day for 10 days (1120 miles Total)
  • FF Kevin Summerhayes 26.2 Mile Run every day for 10 days (262 Miles Total)
  • FF Mark Palmer Undisclosed amount of Full Ironman Distance every day

Bridgend Ford have donated £500 towards the charities and also provided a Ford Well-house Camper for Rich to use during the event.

Rich Fuller is a Firefighter on White Watch, working at Cardiff Central Fire Station. He loves a good challenge and has completed several long distance events, some of the most notable being 3 times finisher of the UTMB and 3rdplace finisher at ‘The Continuous Brutal Extreme Triple Ironman’ 2015. The clue is in the title for this one! A 7.2 mile Cold open water swim, 352 mile cycle around Snowdon (with 36,000ft elevation) followed by a punishing 78 mile trail run, including Snowdon and a 10,000ft climb! Rich completed the event in a phenomenal 58 hours, 31 minutes and 33.6 seconds and had just 1hr of sleep during the race. His Firefighting colleagues from white watch Central were again integral in his successful completion of the race. He has also collected over £5000 for charity in recent years, of which £1500 was donated during the Triple Brutal!
