Performance

Two EcoBoost petrol engines are on offer as either a 1.5-litre or a 2.0-litre and there are three 2.0-litre diesels available in a choice of 147bhp, 177bhp and 207bhp. If you plan on taking on difficult terrain in unfavourable weather, then go for one of the all-wheel drive diesel engines that offer better agility.

You can choose from three types of six-speed gearboxes – manual, automatic and Ford Powershift. The latter gives you smoother changes as it pre-selects the gear so you won’t lose any power when you shift up a notch. You can also choose to add paddle shifts on the steering wheel so you can change quickly and efficiently.

Technology

All S-MAX cars come with an eight-inch touchscreen which plays host to the digital radio, CD player and your phone when connected to the Bluetooth. From the Titanium trim level upwards, this screen also displays satellite navigation so it’s safely in your line of sight. There are plenty of optional extras to choose from which are designed for easier and more comfortable driving.
